Hi there! Today I’d like to show you two different cards made with the same stencil. Stencils can be very versatile and they allow you to change the look of your project easily.

For each look, I will be using the 6×6 Aspen Trees Stencil available from Artistcellar. Since we are transitioning from autumn to winter, I thought I’d use the seasons as a theme.

Look #1 – Autumn

The first look is the autumn themed thank you card shown below. To make this card, I started with 90# cold-pressed watercolor paper. I placed the Aspen Trees Stencil on top and applied Distress Inks through the stencil using a sponge dauber. Then I removed the stencil and flicked water mixed with copper Perfect Pearls on top, to get the look of falling leaves.

Look #2 – Winter

The second look is this winter themed You Are Special card. For this card, I used all of the same materials. The only changes were the colors that I used: different shades of Distress Inks and Perfect Pearls. Instead of falling leaves, the Perfect Pearls now suggests falling snow.

Caring for your stencils

I also wanted to share a tip with you about caring for your stencils. In each of these card samples, the Perfect Pearls needed to be heat set. Be sure to remove your stencil before using a heat tool, or you will warp it.

A heat tool can warp your stencil

This photo shows what can happen to your stencil if it is heated with a heat tool. The Aspen Trees Stencil on the left has been warped from the heat, while the Aspen Trees Stencil on the right has not been heated and is still flat.

Sneak Peek!

Before you go, I wanted to give you a sneak peek for my project for the TEXTures stencils blog hop that is going on!
