Hello all!! Happy Tuesday!!
Lori here from Lori’s Happy Place, bringing you your Tuesday Artistcellar post.
Today, I am sharing a journal cover I decided to finally decorate.
I absolutely LOVE art journalling, but these boring covers absolutely just have to be changed. Yucky!!!!!
The first thing I did was to dismantle the book. You can carefully spread the rings apart and slip your cover out. This way the wires do not get in the way while you play. After your project is dry, you can easily put the cover back.
My first layer was a layer of white gesso.
The second layer I decided to do a technique by the FAMOUS Tracy Weinzapfel. I painted with a baby wipe. Yep, instead of dirtying tons of brushes, just use a baby wipe and dab all over. It gives your page tones of texture. Here is a look at me demonstrating this mind blowing technique.
Here is what the cover looked like after I added some Deco Arts – Indian Turquoise, Hauser Medium Green, and some Silks Acrylic Glaze – Sunburst.
I liked the shimmer that the Silks Acrylic Glaze added to the page so much, that I decided to add some more. This time I decided to drip it down the page. The Silks is a bit thick, but you can get some good drippage if you just mix some with a little water first.
I did from the top down, dried it, and then flipped it over and did it from the other direction too. Love the shimmer!!
Next, I decided it needed a little more blue, so I sprayed a few blobs of Dylusions Spray Ink London Blue.
I then pulled out my Balzer Designs Four Flowers Stencil from Artistcellar. I used it along with some Tim Holtz Seedless Preserves Distress ink, Ranger Vermillion Archival Ink, and some Deco Arts Gloss Enamel Bright Orange to add some flowers to the page.
After I dried the flowers, I added some black to the edges with my Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink
Since I already had the Jet black out, I used it to add some added texture to the page using my Balzer Designs Mini Punchinella Stencil from Artistcellar.
I also splashed some more Deco Arts paint on the cover, added a little white detail with a white acrylic paint marker, and added some words with a Dymo label maker.
My dear friend Tracy Weinzapfel, does a monthly challenge. This month she challenged us to design something that included 5 things that we want to be remembered for. I decided to use this cover for her challenge so I can constantly see those words when I am working in the journal. My words are Faith, Humor, Heart, Honesty and Creativity.
The final cover shows a little more detailing done with a black pen around the red flowers. I really love how this turned out.
Have you ever thought about what you want to be remembered for as both a person AND an artist? As my friend challenged me, I challenge you. Think about it!! How do you want to be remembered?
